Ep. 1655 Why Does the Left Favor Lockdowns? - YouTube

It's been quite remarkable to me the extent to which the lockdowns have divided people along ideological lines. A left-wing case against lockdown seems so easy to make and so obvious, and yet a vanishingly small number of people are making it. Thaddeus Russell, an eclectic and always interesting thinker who grew up on the left, joins me to try to get to the bottom of it.

I'm getting a lot of "if it prevents one death, it's worth it" or we must stay home and wear masks until it is safe." I don't even know where to begin to answer that, except to observe that humans are very bad at evaluating relative risk. Start with getting out of bed in the morning or commuting - both increase the risk of death in the short run.

there's also an equally good left-wing case for opposing abortion. nobody makes that one either.
