Whatever Beijing’s intentions, two things are certain: it will neither cave in to demands nor allow the situation to escalate further.


My sympathies are entirely with the brave protestors in HK's streets. But I fear they will be crushed, and thousands, many of them too young to appreciate the consequences of their actions, will end up in the PRC's prisons and torture chambers.
