We had a Shorthair Pointer/Boxer mix, who combined the Pointer's fascination with game and the Boxer's characteristic use of the front paws. She would creep up on birds, then spring through the air as teh bordsa flushed, swatting them down with her paws--like a cat, but a bigger and stronger cat. She got small animals the same way. Pepper. named for her brindle coat, did a lot of birds, all the time. I estimate that she had about a 25% success rate. She probably could have made a living at it, if she had to.
