Marty Ginsburg dies
Tom Smith

He was widely considered to be the most brilliant tax lawyer of his generation.  The work for Ross Perot mentioned in the obituary involved solving a tax issue that had stumped roomfuls of lawyers in Perot's sale of EDS to GM.  Ginsburg came up the idea of letter stock, stock whose dividends track the performance of a particular division of the corporation.

He was also a brilliant teacher of tax law, for which I will forever be grateful and have--however irrationally--tended to excuse many of his wife's more egregious opinions. May he rest in peace.
