From race to ugly
Tom Smith

I'm reluctant to point this out, but there is rather a direct line from the 1964 Civil Rights Act provision that prohibits private discrimination on the basis of race and Professor Rhodes suggestion (see immediately below) that we legally prohibit discrimination against ugly people (the appearance-challenged?).  As the well-informed readers of this blog will know, doubting the former has gotten Rand Paul in trouble.  I should add probably that it seems to me those provisions in the 1964 Act were necessary to break the back of institutionalized racism in this country.  But we do seem to have leaped onto a slippery slope in having done so, a slope many of our colleagues are only too eager to slide down, laughing all the way.
