Thank You for Smoking
Mike Rappaport

Recently, I saw Up in the Air and thought it should win the Oscar.  People then recommended another Jason Reitman film, Thank You for Smoking.  Well, TYFS is even better than Up in the Air.  Really, an hilarious, sarcastic, and thoroughly enjoyable movie.  Reitman also directed (but did not do the screenplay for) Juno, which I liked but didn't love.  This guy is incredible.  An individual version of Pixar.  If you haven't seen TYFS, it is a must see.  I definitely plan to see it again.

You strike me as moronic. I am not sure who you are or quite what your profession is but your taste in movies is terrible. Jason Reitman is a gimmicky film-maker whose 3 projects all revolve around some kind of hook that really falls flat on its face after the 1st act finishes. Thank you for Smoking has a funny conceptual core, especially with Eckhart in the lead role, and the intro to the movie is fantastic. But once you get past the momentum and flash of that first scene the dimensions of the characters become flat - no one seems motivated, they are all playing the cutesy roles carved out by the script. The MOD squad seems funny at first, but by the 3rd time we see them we understand, just like the Marlboro man and Robert Duvall, they are just placed there to punch out a few more one liners. Up in the Air is such an overrated piece of garbage made specifically to appeal to idiots such as yourself who want to seem smarter than they actually are without having to go through the strain of actually watching an intellectually challenging movie. Imagine when Reitman pitched this terrible idea to the studios and the studios going wild: A man who fires people for a living also wants to fly 500 billion miles to get a silver card saying he is part of the 500 billion mile club. Also, since he flies so much, he doesn't have a lot of stuff in his apartment. What a terrible basis for a movie, let alone a character played by George clooney who doesn't even seem personally convinced of the lines he utters through his barely open mouth. Any of the scenes where he starts talking about backpacks representing your life had to be embarassing for him to perform. As for Juno, I am wondering if I hate Diablo Cody's script more than I hate your opinion in movies. Maybe not.

You really should get out of your mom's basement, Rupert, or buy a dog.
