Econ's tough that way too. If the price of widget has risen, what can we say about movements in the supply and demand curve? Answer: *Either* supply has shifted up or demand shifted up, or both. That's a tough answer for students to grasp.

(Second part: what data would help you pin down what happened? --Answer--what happened to quantity will help some. )
