The mistress life style
Tom Smith

Take a look at this story. Assuming it is true, and not a hoax (it reads a bit too much like fantasy to be true, but it's possible) I doubt these arrangements work out very well for the woman in the end.

It makes me wonder what an insightful, perceptive but non-ideological analysis of sexual political economy would look like.

Divorce laws have many consequences.

"The only part of our relationship that isn't spoken about is that while you're in school I keep you in the comfortable lifestyle you deserve (and I intend to keep doing so after you graduate). To me, that is just not something we need to discuss with anyone."

What the hell is he talking about? This is the second article about that "part of our relationship".

Dearieme, I don't think divorce laws are a cause of the phenomenon so much as yet another symptom of the same underlying cause: prosperity and technology have undermined the basic material needs that powered traditional domestic relationships. The idle rich have always had, shall we say, more fluid relationships than those for whom traditional families were a way to protect women, children and the elderly from helpless destitution. Today, thanks to the affluent society, fairly ordinary people can forgo marriage and children, get divorced, or even have children out of wedlock, without the disastrous consequences that would have ensued in past ages. Having, or spending your early adult years being, a kept woman is just one more luxury that people without serious fear for their futures can get away with indulging in these days.

As a man once said, immorality is what somebody is doing when they are having a beter time than I am.

I'm highly dubious if only because the dude is pretty good looking and the girl strictly average. This reads like "Melissa" living out her fantasies and trying to make people envious vicariously....

I'm sure this sort of thing happens, but I agree with Andronicus that this smells like a hoax.

three months before they had sex? And he was good with that? Also just handing your mistress an Amex black card? I have a hard time seeing any businessman doing that. Also, you would be stupid to do this without a palimony contract of some kind. She doesn't mention signing anything. Again, if her dude is a big business player with deep pockets, I doubt he is so stupid. Possibly you could do everything through shell companies etc and reduce it to he said/she said, but you would still have a lot of exposure. So I just don't believe it. I have also met a number of successful entrepreneurs, and none of them look like the guy in the picture, who spends a lot of time in the gym and has shaved or waxed his body. So I bet this is 75% probably a fantasy, a hoax and a way to get some play on The Beast. They should follow this up.

If you are male, successful and as good-looking as the guy in the photo, why do you need to enter into a formal partnership with a woman? Plenty of women would be happy to hang around with you on your terms without being, in effect, your employee. It seems more likely that a guy who wanted a no-strings relationship would look for a woman who could tolerate his eccentricities, rather than think about formal contracts.

I wonder if the whole story isn't really a PR scheme for the website that she mentions in the first article.
