It's not me
Tom Smith
Just to be clear, I am not the Thomas Smith who wrote the, uh, controversial piece in the National Review. I go by the nom de blog Tom Smith. Yes, there have been times when I wished for a less anonymous name, but what can you do. I knew a woman named Pigg, for example. It could be worse. I once had a clerk in a clothing store in Boise go all gooey on me because she mistook me for the Smith who was her high school boyfriend. Really. I was the jock Smith, he was the freak Smith. While he was having fun, I was running stairs and throwing up. Anyway, I did not write any inaccurate stories about Iraq. But if you google "Tom Smith conservative," I actually come up ahead of the Thomas Smith accused of fabulizing (though that could just be because Google knows what I'm thinking). With just plain old "Tom Smith" I don't come up until page 2. With "Tom Smith law," I do very well. I could do this all day.

The anonymous name does not help. I put up with the grief of an unpronounceable name, but I thought at least it made me unique. But no. There is another Bill Sjostrom, at Truth on the Market. Who would have thunk it. Damn.

It could be worse. One of my colleagues shares a name with a fellow who, apparently, a very prominent gay porn star.
He gets late night phone calls from confused, lovestruck, intoxicated gays. These calls do not amuse him or his wife.
