Mormons drop Scout programs for older teens | Deseret News

The overhaul is stunning, because Scouting has been an indelible, seemingly inseparable, part of the LDS Church's Young Men program for 104 years, but it isn't a major surprise. Church leaders quietly have considered dropping Scouting from its Young Men and Primary programs for many years for multiple reasons.

I remember back in Idaho there were many, many LDS scouts. If you met an Eagle scout, chances were he was a Mormon.

I have an acquaintance, now 80, whose father wouldn't let him join the scouts because they were "fascist". I suspect it was one of those pro-Joe families.
