The Libertarian Party conducted a poll a few months back in order to better understand the religious demographic of party members. A result which surely shocked many was the stereotype-shattering data the Libertarian Party got back. Of the 19,428 votes caste, around 50% of those who participated came back as Christian.
"I turned on the light and clearly saw a spider running across the floor before hearing two stewardesses screaming 'Spider!', but I wasn't sure if I had been bitten as it really wasn't very painful," Hogg told the Telegraph.
But the next day his leg swelled up like a sausage and turned black. He needed immediate medical attention.
By the time he reached a hospital, the leg was "bursting open" with pus.
A Kentucky county clerk who had been jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples secretly met Pope Francis during his visit to the United States last week, a meeting she called greatly encouraging.
This looks like the Holy Father's answer to all the gay lesbian priests and such invited to the White House reception,
Colm Tóibín reviews ‘The Castrato’ by Martha Feldman and ‘Portrait of a Castrato’ by Roger Freitas · LRB 8 October 2015
Castrati, for Feldman, can be understood as the second sons of Italian families who, instead of going into the military or the church, took up singing, and in order to excel had to make a sacrifice. She notes that castration arose at a time in Italy when the eldest son got most or all of the inheritance. For one of the others, getting castrated was a way to deal with the problem of making a living. She writes rather well about this notion of sacrifice, quoting Henri Hubert and Marcel Mauss, two late 19th-century writers on the general subject of sacrifice. They wrote, according to Feldman, that the victim ‘somehow has to be ravaged in a solemn but devastating way … The end goal is to sanction the victim so as to authorise him for a special purpose, removing him … from ordinary life … by radical alteration that leads to a kind of rebirth. Thereafter the victim, now improved, mediates between sacred and profane worlds.’
A majority of House Republicans on Wednesday rejected a leadership-proposed bill to fund the government for the next few months because it failed to defund Planned Parenthood.
But thanks to unanimous support from Democrats, the bill was passed easily, ensuring there will be no partial government shutdown when the fiscal year expires at midnight. Support from Democrats allowed it to pass 277-151; the next step is getting it to President Obama for his signature before the end of the day.
The greatest cultural victory of the Left has been to disregard the Nazi-Soviet Pact – Telegraph Blogs
Why do we downplay that memory? Largely because it doesn’t fit with what happened later. When Hitler attacked the USSR – to the utter astonishment of Stalin, who initially ordered his soldiers not to shoot back – it was in everyone’s interest to forget the earlier phase of the war. Western Communists, who had performed extraordinary acrobatics to justify their entente with fascism, now carried out another somersault and claimed that the Nazi-Soviet Pact had only ever been a tactical pause, a moment when Stalin brilliantly stalled while building up his military capacity. Even today, the historiographical imprint of that propaganda lingers.
