RANCHO SAN DIEGO — A 16-year-old Steele Canyon High School boy died Thursday in a head-on crash on Steele Canyon Road in Rancho San Diego, authorities said.
He was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Julian Fraire of El Cajon.
The collision was reported about 7:25 a.m. north of Vista Cielo Drive, the CHP said.
The teen, who got his provisional driving license in September, was headed south in a Chrysler Town and Country van when he veered into the wrong lane, CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said. The van collided with a northbound Ford F450 pickup driven by a 36-year-old Jamul man.
