A Taste of Hell Before Dying | The American Conservative

A vivid and chilling piece about hospital care is getting a lot attention on the health care blogs. Written by ICU nurse Kristen McConnell, it describes the pain and fear often inflicted on patients in their last days or weeks, always in the name of extending their lives.

Seems like there ought to be an iron-clad way to make sure you don't end up like these poor souls. I mean, besides just a DIY mercy-killing. I mean, a legal device to limit your care to the palliative. --TS

In England a procedure called the Liverpool Care Pathway has been introduced into the NHS. (I say "England" because I don't know whether the other home countries do it too). Naturally some opponents say it's legalised murder while its proponents speak highly of it. I have no view.
