Two weeks from now, the United Church of Canada will assemble in Ottawa for its 41st General Council, where it will debate church policy and elect a new moderator. The top item on its agenda is a resolution calling for a boycott of products from Israeli settlements. Fortunately, nobody cares what the United Church thinks about Israeli settlements, or anything else for that matter, because the United Church doesn’t matter any more.

If I had a spiritual crisis - whatever that may be - I wouldn't want to go to a church that said that Christ is just a metaphor. Nor, on the other hand, would I want the advice of an alcoholic Irishman who liked buggering little boys.
There's not much of a choice currently offered by Christianity.

Oops, I shouldn't forget to mention the creationist loonies.

There are a number of very "high orthodoxy" protestant churches (at least in the USA) which have not watered down anything. They're growing by leaps and bounds.

You make it sound like there's something wrong with being Irish.
