The planet has been much hotter and much colder in the past (both long before people were driving SUVs).
The planet will get much hotter and much colder in the future (regardless of whether people are still around, and whether they're still driving SUVs).
The important question is: WHY is the planet getting hotter at the moment?
If a large part of it is human activity, then changing human activity might be important (even if some negative impact on economic results occurs).
It little of it is human activity, then we should not be focused on curtailing economic activity, but rather we should be focused on directing economic activity to dealing with the changes to come with a warmer planet in the near term future.
