I love this guy:
"The Senate health care debate has run into a major delaying maneuver by Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who demanded that a proposed amendment be read in full -- a move that could take hours.
The amendment, which is more than 700 pages long and has no chance of passing, would create a single-payer health system. It was offered by Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent socialist from Vermont , who caucuses with the Democrats."
I met Senator Coburn very briefly a few years ago. I'm not usually taken by politicians, but I came away wanting to elect him President. If he is able to drive a stake through the heart of the health care bill this way, he should be elected not just President but Grand Hero of the Republic.

In Scotland, as you may know, the surname pronounced Coburn is spelled Cockburn. Perhaps American politics isn't ready for that spelling.

I thought I heard on the radio that the Democrats killed the reading on a controversial parliamentary move?
Sincerely,

It wasn't a controversial parliamentary move. It's a complex move called "withdrawing the amendment." However, I am quite sure talk radio made the overly complex move of "withdrawing the amendment" sound controversial.
Also, since when is requiring the reading of an amendment a brilliant legislative move? You want a Senator whose best curve ball is reading an amendment that won't pass, to be elected President? What is he going to do when the going gets tough, sit down for a long reading of the federal code? Naw, lets not call an alternative proposal brilliant, lets compliment him on reading. Nice. He must have Senate "tenure."
