Over at Feminist Law Profs, Bridget Crawford is saying the legislature of the great state of Rhode Island botched their prostitution law. I disagree. I think what you have here is a piece of legislation that carefully excludes what is known in the trade as lap dancing, a practice whereby the lap dancer sits on the lap of the patron and wiggles around, inducing a state of happiness which, while brief, induces the patron to part with anywhere from twenty to one hundred dollars. A quick google search reveals Rhode Island has no shortage of strip clubs in which a whole variety of entertainment is available including (without limitation) lap dances (bikini), lap dances (topless) and lap dances (nude). My guess is the strip club lobby in Rhode Island is alert and effective. And probably mobbed up as hell, too, but that's another story. (via Instapundit.)
