The NYT is down to about National Enquirer quality, accuracy and ethical level (which scooped the NYT on Edwards, didn't it?), the NYT is simply at a somewhat higher literacy level and has a mcuh higher partisanship quocient.

Please don't slander the Enquirer by equating them to the Times. The Enquirer has much tougher fact-checking. That's why their headlines are generally much less sensational than the other supermarket tabloids, which just make stuff up (like the Times). The Enquirer won't do that, so they run a lot of trivial (but accurate) celebrity fluff to fill up the pages.
