Well, this is surprising.  Apparently, the one country in the world where there is legalized financial payments to kidney donors is Iran.  Iran is one of the least free countries, both in terms of political and civil rights, but also -- importantly -- in terms of economic freedom.  Yet, there you have it, a legal system for financial payments to kidney donors that "nephrologist Benjamin Hippen argues . . .  has saved thousands of lives."
